If you are planning to have a building project done, it's important that it’s built right. It needs to pass building and safety codes, for instance. In order to ensure your building project is built according to regulations, you need to hire a good reputable builder.
Talk to as many home builders as you possibly can. Before you meet with each one, however, prepare a list of questions. Get details on how they will work on your new home. Their answers to your questions will help you decide in choosing the right builder for you. The answers can also clue you in on whether or not a builder is trustworthy. Also, having a list of questions prepared will help you maximize
your time when you meet them. You can focus at the task at hand and even voice out your concerns and have them addressed early on in the process.
Below are some of the questions you can ask a prospective builder:
1. How many years have you been in the building business?
2. Are you licensed and do you have the necessary registrations?
3. Have you been recognized or given any home building award?
4. Can you show me samples of your work?
5. Do you have pamphlets or brochures explaining in detail your processes?
6. How soon do you begin work after signing a contract with the homeowner?
7. Do you give you an expected completion date for the building work?
8. How do you deal with delays? What if the work is not finished by the expected completion date you set?
9. When you start a building project, how often do you meet with the homeowner to update him on the work?
10. Do you have a written contract?
As you talk with a potential builder, note the following:
1. How attentive is he?
2. Is he able to answer your questions and address your concerns directly, clearly, and honestly?
3. Does the home builder appear knowledgeable and skilled? Is he able to give good suggestions in order to meet your preferences?
4. Is he courteous and respectful toward you?
Don't rush into making a decision regarding a builder. Spend time thoroughly researching your options. Ask as many questions as you can early on. You want to be sure you are hiring the right Cheltenham builder.
